Album Review:
Liars - Drum's Not Dead LP
Year: 2006
Label: Mute
Genre: Noise Rock
Liars' third album recorded in Berlin Germany can be described as an experimental emotion driven pile of noise. Droning guitars, multi-layer drum tracks, and falsetto vocals define and set apart Liars from the sea of emotionless profit-driven bands filling mainstream media. Its harsh melodies have placed them either at the very bottom, or tip top of album reviews. I'll be the first to say that Liars isn't everyone's cup of tea, but an album as powerful as Drum's Not Dead LP has made its way to being one of my favorite of all time. The Song "The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack" was featured in 2007 existential thriller "The Nines." Probably not coincidentally, it's the most structured, and peaceful song on the album.
Liars has been one of the most overlooked bands of the past 5 years, but with Pitchfork's recent emphasis on Noise-Rock bands such as No Age and Cymbals Eat Guitars, Liars might be on their way to receiving the notoriety they deserve.
